Free Asphalt Pavement Preservation Guide CD Available From Foundation June 2007 -- The Foundation for Pavement Preservation (FP2) in cooperation with SemMaterials and the FHWA Office of Asset Management, have completed development of a CD version of its popular "Pocket Guide to Asphalt Pavement Preservation". The CD-based guide, now available free-of-charge, provides an interactive pavement rating form for evaluating various treatment alternatives based upon pavement condition, lists the benefits of Pavement Preservation, and outlines the steps to start a preservation program. Pavement Preservation is a planned system of treating pavements at the optimum time to maximize their useful life, thus enhancing pavement longevity at the lowest cost. Research reveals that for every dollar spent on pavement preservation, state departments of transportation save at least six dollars in future road rehabilitation and reconstruction costs. FP2 and its public and private sector partners state the key to optimized pavement life is the application of the "right treatment, to the right pavement, at the right time". The CD Guide is the electronic interactive version of a brochure which was originally adapted by FHWA and FP2 staff from a circular first developed by Koch Pavement Solutions, Wichita, Kansas. The Guide can also be accessed on-line at the FP2 website.
